RACKING SYSTEM · High density
Drive-In & Drive-Thru Racking
Lift trucks drive into the lane and store pallets several positions deep, trading aisles for storage. Drive-in is last-in-first-out (LIFO); drive-thru is loaded from one side and picked from the other for first-in-first-out (FIFO). Best for high volumes of the same SKU where density beats selectivity — cold storage, beverage, seasonal bulk.
Common questions
- What is drive-in racking?
- Drive-in racking lets a lift truck enter a storage lane and place pallets several deep on rails, trading aisle space for higher density of the same SKU.
- Drive-in vs drive-thru?
- Drive-in is typically loaded and unloaded from the same face (LIFO). Drive-thru has access from both ends so product can flow FIFO — load one side, pick the other.
- Is drive-in FIFO or LIFO?
- Standard drive-in is LIFO (last-in, first-out). For FIFO rotation in a dense layout, use drive-thru or pallet flow instead.
